Bhumi Puja
About Bhumi Puja
Before constructing a house, temple, or any other structure, Hindus perform the significant ceremony known as Bhumi Puja or Bhumi Pujan. This ritual formally places the foundation stone in the ground, also referred to as a foundation-laying ceremony. Other names for this ceremony include reconciliation events, bedrock ceremonies, groundwork celebrations, and stone-laying ceremonies. In the Hindu religion, laying a foundation stone is considered a momentous occasion as it is believed to appease Bhu Devi/Bhumi Devi and Vastu Purush (the deity of directions) (Goddess Earth). This holy puja ensures that the five elements - Jal (water), Prithvi (earth), Vaayu (air), Aakash (sky), and Agni (fire) - remain balanced in the land. It is important to consult the Shubh Muhurat for Puja before performing Bhumi Puja.
